Day 3 | Guidance for Ministry
Today, Sister Teri and I are asking you to pray for God to give us Guidance in each and every ministry at Riverdale Assembly of God. As you pray, please truly consider what position God would have you play in supporting, assisting, or possibly leading one of the ministries of our church.
- Pray for the fivefold ministry (Ephesians 4:8 - 11).
Ephesians 4:8-11 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
- Pray for wisdom/knowledge and understanding for our pastors (Colossians 1:9).
Colossians 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
- Pray that the leadership in our local church walks together in unity, sharing the vision of our pastors (Numbers 11:16-17).
Numbers 11:16-17 And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee. 17 And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.
The Importance of Children's Ministry
Children can surely come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as amply testified by the following well-known believers...
Polycarp, the great church father, was nine when he was saved.
Matthew Henry was eleven.
Jonathan Edwards, America’s greatest theologian, was seven.
Hymn writer, Isaac Watts, was nine.
Evangelist Henry Drummond, Moody’s friend, was nine.
E. Stanley Jones, the great Methodist missionary statesman, was moved to be a missionary when he was eight years old. He saw a picture of a big tiger standing beside a small Indian boy, and underneath was the caption, “Who will tell me about Jesus?” And Stanley Jones said, “I will.”
Corrie ten Boom asked Christ to be her Savior at age five.
W. A. Criswell, the famous Southern Baptist pastor, was saved when he was ten, but he felt God calling him into ministry even earlier. “I had been thinking about being a preacher for years, since I was six,” he recalled. “I knew I wasn’t converted yet, hadn’t been saved. But I knew God wanted me to be a preacher."
Hymnist Philip Bliss was twelve years old when he made his public confession of Christ.
William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, was fifteen.
Dr. Harry Ironside was thirteen.
Count Nickolaus Ludwig Zinzendorf, who gave rise to modern Protestant missions, was saved at age four. By Dr. Larry Petton/Copied from Sermon Central
Results of Tract Ministry
A man was giving out gospel tracts on a steamer. One gentleman whom he approached accepted a tract graciously but said, "I haven’t much faith in that kind of work." The Christian worker replied, "It was through a gospel tract given to me twenty years ago that I was converted." Asking for particulars, the gentleman discovered that it was he who had given him the tract! He had ceased to do this because he saw so few results from his efforts. He added, "But by the grace of God I shall start again."
